CBSE has started CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) for students studying in IX standard. For this new method the class IX term will be divided into two semesters. For each of the two semesters, respective examinations will be conducted. Also the evaluation would be made on many other parameters rather than the final exams.
Our View: This is much needed move by the CBSE. Our older system was not fit to test the child on many other important parameters that are success secrets for our future generation. If we are looking at our child’s success then we need to move ahead with CCE or a further improved CCE system. As the name suggests it is a continuous evaluation method that doesn’t rely on one time test to give out the final score. Further to this CBSE has also decided to make 10th Board as optional and only those who want can take the test. So if you want to stay in the same class you need not take the board examination. There are several benefits as listed by the CBSE :
1. It will reduce stress and anxiety.
2. It will reduce the dropout rate.
3. It is expected to prepare the students for life by making students physically fit, mentally alert and emotionally balanced.
4.The emphasis on conceptual clarification through experiential learning.
5. The students will have more time on their hands to develop their interests, hobbies and personalities.
There are many more but the ones cited above are sufficient to make the point understood.
