India’s sharp reaction to the joint statement by the US and China had made the US to get into damage control act by clarifying that the statement was meant to promote peace in the region with the statement’s focus being on the Af-Pak region.

Our View: This can be viewed as a diplomatic move by the US to being seen as a close ally of China as the US economy now is largely synchronized with the Chinese economy.

Its important to note that Pakistan’s diplomacy has welcomed the joint statement by the countries because it is in Pakistan’s interest if the China starts playing greater role in Indo-Pak issues, and we all know what China’s stance will be on all key issues. How India will manage its two neighbors in the coming years… is the biggest issue in external affairs planning today.
