While the global economic slowdown is making everyone cut costs, the Technical Festivals (often called Tech Fests) across India’s premier institutes are still getting their share of money. This time though there has been a shift from IT companies to sector specific companies.
Earlier companies had the fund budgeted for such events to do the brand building among the students but this time companies have other agenda in mind as well — to spot good human resources.
Some of them want to brain storm and find solution to specific technical problem, some of them are looking to find talents during the event, while others are funding for an event to strike a chord with students having a typical interest or skill. After all the investment is not a bad investment considering the return that it gives in terms of attracting good talents -their future Managers and business leaders!
Our View: With industry academia relationship in India is still very weak and it is time to make a start here. University Festivals like these and other industry-interaction projects will surely help participating academic institutions and the Indian Industry in the long term.
