What is it so bad about calling Mumbai, Bombay? Why is there a ruckus over Taxi Driver’s Rule? Why are people from UP and Bihar not allowed to write Exams in Mumbai?

There have been many incidents in Mumbai involving and creating divide between Maharashtrian
Community and others majorly those from Bihar and UP. The latest one where the state Cabinet has
passed a resolution for taxi drivers to compulsorily be able to read and write Marathi. Also, a
driver should have stayed in the state for more than 15 years. As the new Spread there have been
debates all over.

Our View: Let us try to understand the perspectives and motives of all the parties involved in this.

Sugar Prices Again On A Rally

New Delhi: Sugar prices have become stronger on anticipation higher demand in the upcoming festival season and lower release in January by the government. This could mean higher prices for biscuits, cold drinks, confectionery, chocolates and other processed food items of urban mass consumption. The prices have shown a rally of Rs 5 on ex-factory prices. The rise is unusual because the Maharashtra output has grown up by 3.4%. The total production which was projected to be 16m tonnes is being revised to 15.5 million tonnes against a requirement of 23 million tonnes.

Thick fog causes three train accidents in Uttar Pradesh: 10 killed, 39 injured

PANKI/ETAWAH, UP, India, 2 Jan 2010: At least 10 people were killed and 39 injured in 3 accidents in UP on Saturday early morning. 15 of the 39 injured are in serious condition. The accidents have taken place at two different locations and involves 5 trains. One being near Panki, in Kanpur district, involved Gorakhpur Express and Prayagraj Express, while the other took place near Etawah between Magadh and Licchawi express. Now Mayawati Wants UP State Break-up

Looks like Indian states are having a race to break up before the new year! Right behind AP and Gorkhaland/West Bangal, now Mayawati wants UP State break-up into as many parts as the people want. Which people is she referring to? The one major difference in this UP case is that she may be able to get the proposal passed using her majority power, whereas in AP a majority of ruling Congress MLAs are themselves against the proposal. Btw, smaller states does not mean better states.
