What is it so bad about calling Mumbai, Bombay? Why is there a ruckus over Taxi Driver’s Rule? Why are people from UP and Bihar not allowed to write Exams in Mumbai?

There have been many incidents in Mumbai involving and creating divide between Maharashtrian
Community and others majorly those from Bihar and UP. The latest one where the state Cabinet has
passed a resolution for taxi drivers to compulsorily be able to read and write Marathi. Also, a
driver should have stayed in the state for more than 15 years. As the new Spread there have been
debates all over.

Reliance Capital Likely to Manage $2.5 bn Malaysian Govt funds

Jan 22, 2010, New Delhi: Reliance Capital Asset Management Company is negotiating with Malaysia to manage up to $5 billion (Rs 23,000 crore) of public and government funds, including money that is part of the national pension fund, persons aware of the development said. Malaysia is also in talks with other global fund managers for the deal and Reliance Capital expects to win a mandate to manage around half the $5 billion that the southeast Asian nation`s government wants private asset mangers to handle. Citigroup raises India FY10, FY11 GDP estimates

The Indian economy may grow at 7 percent in the current financial year backed by buoyant industry growth combined with an upside in agriculture output, Citigroup said, raising its estimate from 6.2 percent. Citi has also revised its estimate of fall in agriculture output to 1 percent from 4 percent, helped by a higher share of commodities other than crops in the agri-GDP. Your Child is Playing with Toxic Toys, Are you Aware?

A Delhi-based NGO center for Science and Environment has found that toys found in the Indian Market contains dangerous pthalates. These can cause serious health dis-order such as asthma, Skeletal defects, impair lungs and damage male protective systems. And many of the toys have crossed the limit by as much as 60-160 times. Majority of Chinese (57%), Taiwanese (100%) toys had breached this limit. India had earlier put restrictions on import of Chinese toys if they fail to confirm the voluntary Indian Standards. Important to note that majority of Indian toys would also not meet these standards but the Indian Toy association claims something contrary.

Prison Reforms together with release of Prisoners languished in untrials on card

Law ministry, Veerappa Moily, has planned to set a deadline of 6 months to release all the under trial prisoners from the jails. All those who have been languishing in jains for petty offences
or those who have already under gone maximum or major portion of punishment without conviction by July 31st would be released. He has chalked out a plan, under which the country has been divided in zones and there are many other measures for faster closure of the cases.
