Need To Liberate Indian Sciences from Red Tape and Political Interference

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, 3 Jan 2010: While inaugurating the 97th Indian Science Congress (ISC 2010), Prime Minister admitted that the Indian Science is gripped under shackles of red tape, in house favoritism and political interference. He said more than the funds it is needed that we attract brains of Indian origin to comeback to India and work here at least for short Period.

Our View: Indian Education/research has been grappled with the same situation and needs eradication of such mindset or people with such mindsets to liberate Indian Science. Corruption is pervasive in the Indian society, wherein money can buy favours at every level, including research scholarships, grants, medals, PhDs — the list goes on.

The Prime Minister is just saying the words on a lecture, lets see if any actions follow. One thing is for sure, Indian people have to do it themselves and grow despite the system.

Dear Prime Minister, you need funds and transparency to attract talent. We are not saying you are responsible for the corruption in India, however unless you do something about it, your words are just wishful thinking. If we can at first utilize at least the brains of India residing in India, that is a lot already.
