Now Mayawati Wants UP State Break-up

Looks like Indian states are having a race to break up before the new year! Right behind AP and Gorkhaland/West Bangal, now Mayawati wants UP State break-up into as many parts as the people want. Which people is she referring to? The one major difference in this UP case is that she may be able to get the proposal passed using her majority power, whereas in AP a majority of ruling Congress MLAs are themselves against the proposal. Btw, smaller states does not mean better states.

Indian Railways Introduces Duranto Trains On Key Lines

The Indian Railways has decided to put a break on its plan to increase the number of iconic Rajdhani Trains. This has been done in a bid to accommodate Duranto trains, which are planned to start for Nagpur-Mumbai, Delhi-Lucknow/Allahabad and Mumbai-Ahmadabad, within a month and a dozen more are in the plans.
These trains would be with AC as well as Non-AC coaches, the traveling time is shorter and would connect short-haul city pairs without halting in between. The fares are also lesser than Rajhdhani trains. Overall a great advantage for customers. Continue reading Indian Railways Introduces Duranto Trains On Key Lines

RBI Tries To Contain Inflation By Increasing SLR By 1%

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has hiked the SLR ( Statutory Liquidity Ratio) by 1% from 24% to 25%, while other key ratios have been kept unchanged. The move is aimed to keep a check on the inflation rate as it will suck up Rs 30,000 from the banking system. After the RBIs move banks are unlikely to increase rates in auto, home and education loans in the near term. But the RBI has raised the requirement for banks to keep the money aside while lending to this sector from 0.40 per cent to one per cent. This is a move to have provision for the NPAs in this sector. Maoists Attack Bihar: 16 killed including 5 children

16 people, including 11 men and  5 children have been killed by Maoist leader in Amosi Bharen Diara village of Bihar. Dispute over 30 bighas of land is said to be the reason behind the attacks. The attack was carried out with an intention of grabbing the land. This is the first case during the NDA regime led by CM Nitish Kumar.

PM earlier this month had agreed that the government had not yet achieved much success in containing the left extremism. Note that last year alone there were a 1,591 incidents of Maoist violence resulting in 721 killings; this year until August there had been 1,405 incidents, resulting in 580 deaths spread over 11 states as told by the home minister P. Chidambaram. Thus it still remains a great internal security threat to our country.

Our View: Governments might be taking steps to address the problem but the maoists continue to haunt the nation. The alarming thing being that many sections including youth and intelligentsia are joining the movements. The problem has to be checked and contained; devised strategies have to look into many aspects like security management, economic stability and source of funds (to the movement).

Air India Pilots Strike Called Off – 30Sep2009

Air India Executive Pilots have called off the strike today after an assurance from the Civil Aviation Minster, Praful Patel. He had made it clear yesterday that decision to salary cut has been in abeyance and final decision on the extent of cut would be taken with a committee comprising of Pilots. Mr. Patel also warned that if the pilots fail to return, then management has full authority to take action in favour of passengers.

Our View: Finally the customers can take some relief now as they are now relieved of the inconvenience cause due to strike. Happy Air Traveling!
