Pakistan acting slow on the war against terrorism

Washington: Pakistan will not take action on the militants as required by the US. It wants to use its connections with the Taliban to use it against India. As there are rising doubts about the long term strategic interest of the US in the region; the US president had made a statement that it would pull out the US forces in the region after mid-2011. Thus stratfor feels that a commitment from them is unlikely.

Our View: See this event in light of announcement made by the Pakistani army that any new offensives

against militants for six months to a year would not be made. Now since the US president has announced that the coalition force would start withdrawing by mid-2011, Pakistan feels that they need a firm commitment from the US on the fear of her getting aloof on its border with Afghanistan. So after a year it would be closer to the deadline set by the US president and would know it action plan for sure. So it might be delaying the war against terrorism. Also, it would get a chance to calm the political and security unrest on its land.
